THE SYMPOSIUM

DIES TRAIANI

     The Hunedoara County Council and the Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilisation organise on September 18–19, 2009, at Sarmizegetusa a dedicated scientific event for commemorating the birthday of Emperor Trajan, already a tradition of the museum in Deva under the name of “Dies Traiani”. The official opening of the cultural events will take place on September 18, 2009, 11.00 a.m. at the Cityhall of Sarmizegetusa, followed by an official guided tour of the Archaeological Museum and Site of Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa.
     On the dedicated symposium will participate 30 specialists in ancient history and archaeology from the museums in Bucharest, Cluj, Retita and Deva. The main topics to be addressed during the symposium are related to a series of complex problems of this major archaeologic site, starting with the possibilities of its setting on value, following the presentations of the most recent archaeological excavations undertaken in here and up to specific themes concerning the Roman rule in the South-West of Transylvania, the Roman legacy etc.
     A delegation of Italian officials led by Giorgio Ciardi, vicepresident of the Local Council of Rome, will also take part to this cultural event.
