THE    NUMISMATIC    COLLECTION
This is one of the oldest collections, which contributed directly to the establishment of the museum at Deva in 1880. It consists of individual coins or hoards (coins made of gold, silver, bronze or common metal), medals, decorations, chips and banknotes. The entire collection comprises a number of 18,568 objects, some 6,346 of it being the old part of the collection, while during the last six decades more than 12,000 objects hev enriched the collection, numismatic artefacts found during the archaeological excavations, chance finds, donations, transfers and acquisitions.
This collection illustrates, throughout the largest part of its components, the main aspects of the monetary activity and circulation on Romania’s territory during the historic ages.
